VICTORIOUS NIGHT was only a three-length fourth when the 9-4 favourite for an apprentice handicap at Salisbury last week but he raced on the ‘dead’ rail from the worst of the draw in stall 1 of 7. It was a big advantage to race wide that day and five of the seven apprentice jockeys clocked on and had their mounts positioned in the middle of the track.
Liam Browne on Victorious Night was one of two exceptions, with the other (the Hannah Fraser-ridden 4-1 shot Siberian Night) beaten over 12 lengths into sixth. Victorious Night is back in maiden company here and will be hard to keep out of the frame.

Separate, rated 88 that day, has dropped to a mark of 80 after three modest efforts but two of those came on unsuitably soft ground and the other at Royal Ascot where she struggled to see out the mile trip in the Kensington Palace Stakes. She ran well over inadequate trips in both previous course outings and is worth chancing at a big price.
