TOSEN WISH – (1.15 Navan, 1pt each-way – 6/1)
TOSEN WISH fared best of those to come from off the pace when a 40-1 fifth in a similar course and distance contest on his recent debut should know more this time.
He was favourably drawn towards the far side that day, but his jockey switched him to the centre of the track shortly afterwards, turning his good draw into a bad one. He met trouble and had to be switched again before keeping on well under a considerate ride to finish best of the hold-up horses in fifth place, just over five lengths behind the winner.
That was a hugely encouraging debut and, given the fine strike-rate of New Bay progeny second time out (23.5% on turf only), he’s likely to take a big step forward today.

INTERVENTION – (1.45 Navan, 1pt each-way – 15/2)
One of the strongest track biases of the year cropped up a fortnight ago at Navan where low draws enjoyed a huge edge in sprints, with the winners drawn 4 of 12, 5 of 20, 2 of 20 and 1 of 11. The apprentice handicap was probably the best example, with 40-1 shot The Peckhampouncer (stall 2 of 20) making all to score comfortably from Coffeemeanscoffee (stall 1) for a computer straight forecast of £447.97.
The first two home were almost certainly flattered, as were the low-drawn fourth and fifth, but it was the performance of third-placed Intervention (stall 15) that was particularly noteworthy. The Charles O’Brien-trained 12-1 shot, who was sporting cheekpieces for the first time, was given a patient ride from his poor high draw and did really well to keep on down the middle of the track into the places.
This took his record to 0-20 but he’s usually thereabouts in big-field sprint handicaps on turf, recording form figures of 8025243 (0-7). He has stall 11 of 23 today, not brilliant of the bias is the same, but still better than last time. He can reward each-way support.
