The last day of the week, and the final day of Chester’s May meeting, sees our man Andrew Mount look to start your weekend off with a bang with four top tips across the cards.

1.30 Chester – BOARDMAN (1pt win – 12/1 bet365)

BOARDMAN has a fine record in the spring (March to May) after a recent run (within the past six weeks), recording form figures of 11115110551 (7-11) for a profit of £23.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. He’s drawn wide but the drying ground and likely strong pace will suit and he’s worth a punt.
MASTER ZOFFANY is another Chester expert who looks over-priced because of his wide draw (stall 12). His five runs here on good to soft or faster going have returned form figures of 51151 (3-5) and it’s interesting to note that the wins came in Class 2 company and the defeats in Class 3 and 4. It looks to be a case of the better the race, the better he performs as he’s more likely to encounter a strong gallop.
2.35 Chester – BOX TO BOX (1pt win – 8/1 bet365)
BOX TO BOX has form figures in fields of ten or fewer runners of 4732111412213 (5-13), improving to 11121 (4-5) at Chester only. He ran with credit in his four starts in Bahrain (2nd, 3rd, 11th and 2nd) despite encountering big fields on every occasion and will appreciate the return to the Roodee and facing only eight rivals. Throw in a handy draw in stall 2 and the booking of William Buick and he looks a solid bet.
2.40 Market Rasen – THE ELECTRICIAN (1pt ew – 20/1 generally)
THE ELECTRICIAN is clearly no star, but he has a good record in the spring, and he might out-run his odds on his first start since his modest fourth on heavy ground at Southwell in February. His chase record from March to May reads P113 (2-4), with the non-completion excusable as he made a bad blunder at the third fence on his chase debut and his jockey felt that something was amiss, so pulled him up.
