2.55 Aintree – GOLDEN ACE (1pt ew – 12/1 Coral, 11/1 bet365)

GOLDEN ACE perhaps didn’t receive the credit she deserved for beating one of the Irish bankers (Brighterdaysahead) in the Dawn Run at the Cheltenham festival, a run that took her record since wind surgery to 111 (3-3). She ran second at 40-1 in the mares bumper at this meeting last year and the only two mares to contest this race in the past ten years were both placed.

14:55 TrustATrader Top Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (GBB Race)

3.30 Aintree – EASY GAME (1pt win – 16/1 Betfair, Paddy Power, BetVictor)

The Willie Mullins-trained EASY GAME has a fantastic record in small fields, landing 15 of his 25 starts in fields of nine or fewer runners, including his last nine such runs. He bombed out in the Galway Plate (20th of 22) on his penultimate start and his jockey cited the small field as the reason for the improvement when he beat Gentlemansgame in a Grade 2 contest at Gowran Park next time. He’s been off the track since last September but loves deep ground and his small-field record is compelling.

15:30 My Pension Expert Melling Chase (Grade 1) (GBB Race)

4.40 Aintree – PINOT ROUGE (1pt ew – 66/1 Coral, BetVictor)

PINOT ROUGE won her sole point-to-point start before a close-up 40-1 third in a 2m4f novices’ hurdle at Newcastle. That race worked out exceptionally well and Susan Corbett’s six-year-old further boosted the form when recording a 20-1 win in a 3m Listed mares’ novice on soft ground at Doncaster. She remains open to further improvement, especially now the first-time cheekpieces are added, and this race has thrown up a few shocks over the years.

16:40 Cavani Sartorial Menswear Sefton Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (GBB Race)
