3.00 Newmarket – BAGUE D’OR (1.5pt win – 6/1 bet365, William Hill)
I wasn’t worried about stall 19 of 19 (once adjusted for non-runners) for BAGUE D’OR in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot as staying wide, well away from the ‘dead’ inside rail is a big advantage. However, nobody told Danny Muscutt and he was right hand down on leaving stalls and never left the ‘swamp’. In the circumstances, James Ferguson’s six-year-old did well to finish 11th of 19 and will be happier back up to this 1m6f trip today. He’s unbeaten in two starts on the July Course and the drying ground will suit.
4.20 York – SISYPHEAN (1pt win – 5/1 bet365, Betfair, Paddy Power)
SISYPHEAN caught the eye here on his juvenile debut here in late August, running green before keeping on into fifth of 14 behind the now-106 rated Battle Cry over 7f and he was narrowly denied over 1m on good to soft at Ayr the following month. He returned from his winter break to score at Newcastle in February, despite making the running on a track rarely kind to such tactics and can be excused his handicap debut defeat at the Craven meeting as he reportedly bled from the nose and has since undergone wind surgery. Kevin Ryan has a solid record with his three-year-olds on their first run back after a wind operation, scoring with 11 of the 48 qualifiers for a profit of £22.63 and the son of Dubawi can bounce back today.
5.25 Dundalk – NORTHERN SONAS (1pt win – 18/1 Sky Bet, 888Sport, BetVictor)
With countless races from Ascot, Chester, Newmarket and York to choose from it may seem odd to head to Dundalk for a selection but I like the claims of NORTHERN SONAS in this 1m4f handicap. Andrew Oliver’s three-year-old looks the only pace angle despite the big field and the step up to 1m4f should suit. He has been beaten in turf handicaps the last twice but the switch to the all-weather could be the key. His trainer has a great recent record when running one over 1m2f+ in an all-weather handicap for the first time, with 13 of the 51 qualifiers scoring (25.5%) for a profit of £105.25 to a £1 level stake at SP.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Should We Expect Business As Usual When A Stable Is Taken Over By A Family Member?
Nowadays, we often see more than one name on a training licence – John & Thady Gosden for example – as a prelude to the younger member of the family taking over in their own right but will this change affect the way the yard operates, or will it be business as usual? My Proform…
