Harriet Bethell has only trained a pair of ex-Jamie Osborne runners before – All Dunn, placed at 15-2 on his debut for new connections before scoring a couple of runs later, and Yanifer, a respectable fifth at 25-1 on the all-weather on his yard debut before going on to score four times on turf. In the past five years, backing ex-Osborne runners on their first start for a new handler has found 11 winners from 79 bets (14% strike-rate) for a profit of £42.86 and STYLE OF LIFE, well drawn in stall 2, looks worth a bet in this 1m handicap. The headgear goes on for her seasonal/stable debut and she was a winner at Chelmsford when we last saw her.
7.55 Pontefract – ARECIBO (0.5pt ew – 16/1 generally)
There’s plenty of early pace on offer in this 5f handicap and it could be set up for a closer. The one that interests me is the admittedly hard-to-won-with ARECIBO, who will appreciate the small field. Declan Carroll’s veteran has only had ten goes in handicaps featuring nine or fewer runners, recording form figures of 1224212237 (2-10). His last-time out eighth of 11 at Chester is safely ignored as he was drawn wide, blew the start and met trouble in running.
