Safer Gambling Week 2025
This year Safer Gambling Week runs from Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd November, with the intention to educate bettors around the importance of responsible gambling. Here at GG we fully support the initiative and have pulled some information together about how people can evaluate whether they are betting safely and the tools offered by bookmakers…
Wed 12 Nov 202512.59 Chepstow – POUNDS AT THE TIME (0.5pt e/w – 33/1 bet365, 28/1 generally)
POUNDS AT THE TIME showed ability in three runs in Ireland for Paul Tobin, notably when a 50-1 second to the Willie Mullins-trained Sortudo (Grade 2 placed and seventh of 17 in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham festival subsequently) in a Tramore bumper on soft/heavy going at this time last year. The five-year-old finished a distant third in a Fontwell maiden hurdle last month on his debut for Toby Lawes but the 14-1 shot would have needed that after a 311-day absence. It’s possible that he’s being prepped for a low-grade handicap hurdle and that we won’t see the best of him until he switches from novice grade, but his trainer does well at the second time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards, scoring with six of the 17 qualifiers since the beginning of 121 for a profit of £48.13 to a £1 level stake at SP. The hurdlers were four from eight in that time frame, with three of the beaten horses making the frame, and this one is worth chancing to small each-way stakes at a big price.
1.34 Chepstow – CASTELFORT (1pt win – 15/2 generally)
Jane Williams has a good recent record with horses having their second start over fences, with Authoceltic’s Wincanton victory yesterday taking the score to five winners from 12 runners since the beginning of 2023 for a profit of £5.10 to a £1 level stake at SP. CASTELFORT ran poorly at Newton Abbot on last month’s chase debut, finishing a 52-length fifth of 11, but that experience would have been needed and it was good to see the distant seventh – No Tackle – win at 20-1 at Lingfield earlier this week. The return to Chepstow where his record reads 2113 (2-4) will suit, as will the softer going.
