7.35 Chepstow – LHEBAYEB (1pt e/w – 10/1 Paddy Power)

LHEBAYEB, a soft-ground course and distance winner three runs back, failed to settle on the front end when a 14-1 seventh of eight at Ffos Las on her next start in a race set up for those ridden patiently. She also had excuses when beaten again at Ffos Las on her latest outing as that race was started by flag and she was hampered as they jumped off when a rival went across her. The seven-year-old recovered to finish second at 12-1 behind the more prominently ridden winner and it was a solid effort in the circumstances. Elizabeth Gale takes off 5lb and she looked well drawn in stall 10 of 10 to track likely pace angle LETTER OF THE LAW (stall 9) against the stands’ side rail.

8.38 Sandown – PRINCESS AMBER (1pt e/w – 8/1 Sky Bet, four places, 17-2+ elsewhere but only three places)

They went too hard up front in the 7f Chester fillies’ maiden won by 16-1 shot Noche Clasica on May 29th and the race was set up for the closers out wide, with the first three finishers – who were drawn in stalls 9, 8 and 7 of 10 – described by the Racing Post as “in rear”, “towards rear” and “in rear”. Those who raced prominently have performed with credit since – odds-on favourite Breckenbrough (fifth) finished second by half a length off a mark of 79 on her handicap debut next time, sixth-placed Abloom has run second on her two subsequent outings and is now rated 75 and front-running eighth Dream Angel was a 17-2 scorer off a mark of 62 in a Wetherby handicap next time. Chester fourth PRINCESS AMBER, who was described as “in touch with leaders, went second over 2f out” was beaten on her next outing but that was at the Ffos Las flag start meeting on June 29th where she did well to finish a 14-1 third from off the pace behind runners described as “prominent, led 2f out” and “in touch with leaders”. The fourth-placed runner was also up with the pace (“prominent, in touch with leaders from 2f out”) and the patiently ridden ninth Popeye Doyle won next time out (15-8 from 14-1), as did the tenth (33-1).
