It’s the second day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting on Friday, with Andrew Mount visiting that venue and Haydock for his three best bets across the day’s cards.

4.35 Haydock – LEADMAN (1pt win – 9/4 bet365, Hills, Ladbrokes, Coral)
I usually back LEXINGTON BELLE blind in September, but she faces two other front-runners (FLAG OF ST GEORGE and ALBESEEINGYER) in this 7f Class 3 handicap, and I’d rather play one of the closers. Step forward LEADMAN, who was drawn away from where the action unfolded when only 12th of 20 to Native Warrior in a hot Class 2 handicap at Ascot last time. His earlier eighth of 17 to Bullet Point in the same grade at York was another solid effort – he fared third best of the hold-up horses when it paid to race on the front end and stablemate Duke’s Command, best of the closers, won at Haydock when dropped in class next time. The drying ground will help, and this race looks sure to be run to suit.
4.45 Newmarket – MYTHICAL GUEST (1pt e/w – 17/2 Hills, Spreadex, SportingIndex, 8/1 generally with the other firms paying four places)
MYTHICAL GUEST finished a respectable 18-1 fourth of nine to the William Haggas-trained favourite Sea Force at Yarmouth last time and will appreciate the return Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course where his record reads 31032 (1-5), with the ‘duck egg’ when 50-1 for last year’s Cambridgeshire. The first of those third place finished came when 100-1 for a 1m2f maiden and the other when behind Bullet Point (now rated 105 from the 89 he ran off that day) and Cambridgeshire hope Tribal Chief. The George Margarson yard is going well, and he and he could out-run his generous odds. I’ve saved on BOYFRIEND, a good statistical fit for this race as discussed in my ‘Andrew’s Angles’ column on the GG website earlier this week.
5.40 Haydock – BUXTED TOO (0.5pt e/w – 18/1 Sky Bet, four places, 20/1 Paddy Power, three places)
BUXTED TOO never got into contention in a similar course and distance contest last time out but the 33-1 shot was ridden by a 5lb claimer and the front-runners never came back to the field. The Ian Williams-trained veteran should find that this race is run more to his liking and Silvestre De Sousa takes over. His Flat record in fields of ten or more runners, when racing in Class 5 or lower company, stands at 4303131718510 (4-13) for a profit of £43.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and pace angles RED DEREK and ROLAND GARROS could tee it up for him.
