2.12 Ascot – BEAU JARDINE (1pt win – 16/1 generally)
BEAU JARDINE ran an absolute shocker when we helped to force his price from 12-1 into 4-1 at Epsom last time but 7lb claimer Shariq Mohd couldn’t hold him, and it might pay to forgive that keen-going effort. He has his required deep ground again and ran kindly for an amateur on his penultimate start, running third on unsuitably fast ground. Eireann Cagney is one of the better jockeys in this 7f contest and the six-year-old is 8lb lower than when a solid sixth of 16 on unsuitably quick ground over course and distance earlier this term. He wears a first-time visor today and was a winner in first-time blinkers previously. I’ve saved on fellow mud-lark DIFFIDENT SPIRIT.

4.15 Newcastle – LOVE SAFARI (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
LOVE SAFARI finished last of four when making his handicap debut on soft going at Hamilton in late May but the 12-1 shot fared much better on fast ground over the St Leger course and distance at Doncaster the following month, going down by just a short head after making the running. The three-year-old rallied strongly in the first-time cheekpieces after looking likely to be swamped, a run that marked him down as a likely future winner. He bombed out at Sandown and Yarmouth the next twice but joined David O’Meara from Charlie Johnston ahead of his latest outing at Ayr where his 9-1 seventh of 13 was worthy of an upgrade as he came from off the pace in a race dominated by early speed. He’s back on the all-weather for the first time since his head second over course and distance on his reappearance and is worth a punt.
