4.15 Sandown – SAVVY VICTORY (1pt win – 5/1 bet365, 9-2 generally)
Last year’s winner SAVVY VICTORY failed to shine in his two subsequent 2023 outings but the son of New Bay showed plenty more at Royal Ascot on his belated reappearance, finishing a 40-1 fourth of 15 in the Listed Wolferton Stakes. That was his first run since a gelding operation and his sire’s progeny are eight from 28 on turf on their second run after gelding for a profit of £46.75 to a £1 level stake at SP. The forecast rain won’t trouble him and it’s only the possible lack of a decent gallop (I’m hoping that Regal Reality puts pace to the race) that tempers confidence.
6.00 Beverley – GOOD EARTH (2pt win – 5/1 888Sport, 9/2 generally)
GOOD EARTH has a tough draw in stall 10 but he’s won from stall 12 on fast ground over course and distance previously and he has his ideal conditions today, namely 5f, turf and a stiff track. Michael Herrington’s seven-year-old was unsuited by the easy track at Redcar last time, finishing second best of the hold-up horses in fifth place and he has an uphill finish for the first time since his Sandown win off an 8lb higher mark last August.
