2.35 Haydock – FLASHY DARK ANGEL (1pt win – 33/1 generally)
The Kevin Ryan-trained FLASHY DARK ANGEL attracted plenty of market interest ahead of her debut here ay Haydock in early July but trailed
home 14 lengths behind the winner in a 5-1 fifth of nine. However, there was a very strong bias to low draws that day (first three drawn 1, 3 and 2) and she was badly berthed in stall 9. Two of the other high-drawn runners who raced down the near side have boosted the form – Nad Alshiba Green, eighth from stall 7, has won two of her three subsequent starts, while Raison D’Etra, sixth from stall 6 (100-30f), was 1 13-2 winner at Sandown next time. Flashy Dark Angel has had a wind operation since that run – her trainer is four from 18 with fillies on their first run after wind surgery (+£17.00 to a £1 level stake at SP) – and the market looks to have over-reacted to her excusable debut defeat.
4.20 Haydock – ABDUCTION (1pt win – 10/1 generally)
ABDUCTION’s seven wins have come on left-handed tracks, most of them in late summer/early autumn. Jim Goldie’s veteran took his record at right-handed Musselburgh to 0-10 when a best-of-the-closers third of seven in a 7f handicap last time and will appreciate the change of direction. There might not be enough pace in this race to help pull him into contention late but I still want to take the chance to small stakes.
5.20 Ascot – USUARIO AMIGIO (1pt ew – 15/2 bet365, 13/2 Hills)
USUARIO AMIGO disappointed in a 1m heritage handicap at York last month but the cut back to 7f on a straight track can spark a revival. James Owen’s three-year-old has had three runs on straight tracks, running a half-length 80-1 third on his debut at Newmarket, finishing second of 15 (beaten by a neck) to Kilt in a Newmarket novice (1m) and second by a neck in a 7f Newmarket handicap. Ascot will suit his patient style, the likely strong gallop will benefit him and he can reward each-way interest.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Can we trust the official going description or is it usually wrong?
Haydock stages the Group 1 Sprint Cup this Saturday (September 7th, 2024) where the official going at the time of writing is ‘good to soft, soft in places’ with a GoingStick reading of 6.00. Of the three weather forecasts I study, the one I trust the most has just 3.5mm of rain due to fall…
