Andrew Mount heads to Yarmouth and Kempton on Monday 13th October, as he looks to bag two winners to kick off a new week in fine style…

3.00 Yarmouth – SMILEY FACE (2pt win – 11/8 bet365, 11/10 generally)
I was at Sandown for SMILEY FACE’s debut 31 days ago and was surprised to see the Kingman colt backed late from 9-2 into 2-1 favouritism as he was very green in the preliminaries. Charlie Johnston’s juvenile was also running on very soft ground – less than ideal judged on his pedigree – but ran a race full of promise in a four-length fourth (though it’s still a mystery as to how he traded at 1.51 in running on Betfair). I wrote him up in Racing & Football Outlook after that introduction, suggesting that he’d be something to bet on next time, and he’s going to prove very difficult to beat in what looks a modest contest.
6.40 Kempton – SHALLOW (1pt win – 11/4 bet365, 9/4 generally)
SHALLOW could only finish eighth in a Class 2 fillies’ handicap at Newmarket last month but is down two notches in class tonight and the smaller field will suit. Richard Spencer’s four-year-old has struggled since her Newmarket win in mid-July but she’s faced fields of 13, 18 and 11 runners and needs a single-figure line-up. That Newmarket win, which came against just five rivals, took her record in fields of nine or fewer runners to 11561141 (5-8) for a profit of £13.25 to a £1 level stake at SP, including two wins from two starts here at Kempton. She could have done without the presence of fellow pace angle JEWELRY but doesn’t have to lead and she looks set for a big run under Oisin Murphy.
