5.30 Carlisle – CANDLE OF TIME (1pt win 7/1 generally)

CANDLE OF TIME has shaped encouragingly in maiden company on Tapeta the last twice and looks worth a bet now making her handicap/turf debut. She was especially eyecatching at Southwell on her second start when a 250-1 sixth of 11 to Port Light, a winner again since who is now rated 100. That form has also been boosted by third-place Molveno, who landed his next three starts and is now rated 90, and fifth home Arcturus Flame, successful at 16-1 on his next outing (now rated 73). Candle Of Time’s subsequent 28-1fifth at Newcastle has also been well advertised, with winner Kameel following up and runner-up Orangesandlemons recording form figures of 221 (1-3) in his subsequent runs. Julie Camacho is ten from 112 with handicap debutants on turf (+£42.25 to a £1 level stake at SP). She doesn’t have to improve significantly on the clock to play a leading role, and the first-time hood could bring about improvement.

17:30 PricedUp Daily Sports Boosts Handicap (A Jockey Club Grassroots Mile Series Qualifier)

5.50 Windsor – RISING EMPIRE (2pt win – 11/8 bet365)

Low-drawn prominent racers are usually favoured on the straight course at Leicester and that was certainly the case in the 5f Class 2 restricted maiden won by Coppull on April 26th in which the first five came from stalls 2, 1, 14, 8 and 4 of 15. Logi Bear, third from stall 12, has finished second and first on his two subsequent runs and a host of other beaten horses who ran well from high draws and/or under patient rides in that valuable contest have franked the form, notably Italica (“dwelt start, in rear”), ninth from stall 11, who finished a close-up 40-1 third from the worst of the draw in the Lily Agnes at Chester and Cotai Belle (“towards rear”), 11th from stall 3, who finished a one-length 40-1 second at Thirsk on Saturday. RISING EMPIRE (“bumped start, in rear, ran green halfway, headway when not clear run over 1f out, switched right and kept on well inside final furlong” finished a promising fourth when making his debut in that Leicester contest and Andrew Balding’s juveniles often make bets at the second time of asking, with those who were beaten on their debuts landing 139 of their 846 starts (16.4%) for a profit of £109.76 to a £1 level stake at SP. The colts were 88 from (19.1%) for a profit of £193.34 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 74.45, A/E = 1.18).
