Andrew Mount has a trio of tips for Monday 20th October, as he heads to Gowran Park, Pontefract and Plumpton for his best bets of the day.

2.19 Gowran Park – NO SUCH THING (1pt e/w – 9/1 bet365, one-fifth five places, 9/1 Ladbrokes, Coral, one-quarter four places)
The wide route looked strongly favoured at Punchestown’s Flat meeting on September 16th and there were plenty of eyecatchers who stuck to the inside rail. The Ross O’Sullivan-trained NO SUCH THING, placed in his two previous starts for his current handler after leaving Ger Lyons, trailed home 19 lengths behind the winner in tenth place in the 9.5f maiden but raced keenly and made the running in the ‘swamp’, shooting ten lengths clear in the early stages before weakening quickly. That took his career score to 0-10 but his earlier placed efforts came over shorter trips and the cut back to 7f looks a good idea now back in handicap company. He’s again ridden by inexperienced apprentice Christine Worrell but this track will suit his forcing style, and he could get an easy lead.
3.33 Pontefract – SOPHIA’S STARTLIGHT (1pt win – 15/8 generally)
SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT has failed to win since landing this 6f fillies’ handicap 12 months ago but is 3lb lower this time around and will appreciate taking on her own sex again after last month’s 11-1 fifth of 12 against the boys at Ripon where she raced alone on the far side of the track from stall 1. Grant Tuer’s five-year-old has a six from 17 record (+£8.58 to a £1 level stake at SP) when running in filles/mares-only races, including form figures in handicaps of 11152911 (5-8) for a profit of £13.25. I shall also play her in a forecast with ROGUE SENSATION, who was last seen running down the field in the 7f fillies’ handicap at York’s Ebor meeting, a race that has thrown up a host of winners.
4.10 Plumpton – TAPLEY (1pt win – 6/4 bet365, 11/8 generally)
I put up TAPLEY as an each-way bet at 100-1 (five places) in the big 2m handicap hurdle at the Aintree festival last season and Suzy Smith’s eight-year-old ran well to finish a 50-1 sixth of 17, doing third best of those to chase the strong early pace. The two prominent racers to finish in front of him – Jack Hyde and Alnilam – have both win since, a shas tenth placed Washington who was also up with the early pace. Tapley has been beaten twice since but the latest defeat was a solid sixth of 16 in the Group 3 Swinton Handicap Hurdle at Haydock, and he drops in class on today’s reappearance. Gavin Sheehan is back on board for the first time since winning this race last year and he’s 4lb lower this time around.
