3.30 Ayr – WOVEN (0.5pt e/w – 28/1 William Hill)
The Michael Dods yard was badly out of sorts when WOVEN finished 11th of 16 at Haydock on May 31st but that still wasn’t a bad effort given his poor low draw. The winner was drawn top of the shop in stall 16 (non-runner adjusted) and the next four finishers came from stalls 14, 11, 6 and 12). Several of those drawn low have performed with credit since, notably King’s Lynn, sixth from stall 7, who has finished third and first in his two subsequent outings. Seventh-placed Durham Castle (stall 2) was a winner next time and Woven, a three-length sixth of 25 in the 2023 Ayr Silver Cup on his latest course visit, is 1lb lower than when scoring at Haydock last September and will appreciate any rain.
5.40 Windsor – COME ON EIBHLIN (1pt win – 4/5 bet365)
COME ON EIBHLIN out-ran odds of 250-1 when debuting in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, keeping on well towards the far side to finish four and a half lengths behind True Love in ninth of 23. Dylan Cunha’s daughter of Space Blues did fourth best of the group of nine runners who raced far side of centre from their low draws. Low-drawn runners have traditionally struggled in the Queen Mary and, since 2015, backing runners who were drawn between stalls 1 and 12 in that Royal Ascot contest, on their next outing, would have found 31 winners from 110 bets (28.2% strike-rate) for a profit of £14.90 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£33.45 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). The expected number of winners, based on their odds, was 23.89 (A/E = 1.30). She drops down to Class 5 novice level for her second career outing and is likely to prove hard to beat.
