2.30 Ayr – RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE (1pt win – 7/2 generally)
Shay Farmer is an apprentice jockey to watch and his booking for RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE is extremely positive. The young pilot has only had eight rides to date, twice steering Tolstoy to victory (18-1 and 13-2) for Brian Ellison as well as finishing second on two of his other mounts (12-1 and 6-1). The 12-1 runner-up was Iain Jardine’s Wee Fat Mac, beaten by a head at Hamilton last week, and stablemate Ravenscraig Castle is taken to make Farmer’s second ride for the yard a winning one. The six-year-old hasn’t got the greatest strike-rate (two from 28) but both his wins have come in July, including one over course and distance. He was well held over the same track and trip on his latest outing but that was in a Class 3 contest, and he drops down to a Class 5 apprentice handicap today. He has the second-best last time out speed figure (according to Proform’s ratings) despite finishing last of five and the change of headgear could perk him up.
4.50 Ayr – END ZONE (1pt win – 14/1 generally)
END ZONE could only finish a 20-1 tenth of 13 to Jumeira Vision in a 1m handicap at Redcar last month buy he was poorly drawn in stall 8 and the form is working out well (at least among the high-drawn runners). The winner was also badly berthed (stall 12) and landed his next two starts, while fourth-placed Young Fire (stall 13) scored at Haydock last week. Bits And Bobs (stall 9), in the same ownership as the winner, improved on his sixth placing with a 14-1 second at Thirsk next time and Kode Breaker, seventh from stall 7, has won twice subsequently. Roger Fell & Sean Murray’s seven-year-old is not the most consistent but his latest win came over course and distance off a similar mark and he’s worth chancing at a juicy price.
6.30 Beverley – GOLDEN RAINBOW (1pt win – 9/2 William Hill, 4/1 generally)
GOLDEN RAINBOW was a big eyecatcher at Catterick on May 13th when fourth from a poor high draw and has won three of his five subsequent starts, including three from three away from Musselburgh where perhaps the track does not play to his strengths. The Rebecca Menzies-trained five-year-old only won narrowly at Carlisle last time but challenged closer to the stands’ side rail than ideal and that performance was worth marking up. He doesn’t look to face a huge amount of pressure for the early lead and can make all.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Are Fillies And Mares Less Reliable Than Colts and Geldings?
In his latest Myth Busters column, our resident tipster Andrew Mount asks whether fillies and mares are less reliable than colts and geldings. Check out Andrew’s thoughts on the subject here… I know some pro-punters who don’t like betting on equine females as they regard them to be quirky and less reliable than their male…
