4.05 Cartmel – LORD ACCORD (1pt win – 15-2 generally)
LORD ACCORD tends to come good as autumn approaches, recording form figures in September/October of 111314P11 (6-9) for a profit of £19.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Neil Mulholland’s ten-year-old finished well held at Uttoxeter in late June after a break of 147-day days but showed a little more at the same venue four weeks later when a 14-1 sixth of ten. Both those runs came in Class 2 handicap chase company and he drops to Class 3 company for the first time since his 16-length victory at Wincanton last October. We’re only a week away from his peak September/October period (he’s yet to run in August) and he looks worth chancing to small stakes.
5.33 Ripon – STAR START (1pt win – 9-4 generally)
STAR START was a winner for this column at Beverley in late July after doing best of the prominent racer in a pace-collapse race the time before and he followed up at Pontefract when denying course expert Unplugged by a short head. Ruth Carr’s five-year-old only went down by a neck at 11-1 at Catterick last time when we bet him again and he’s worth another punt on a track that favours his prominent style. He’s only 3lb higher than when landing this race last year and has a useful draw in stall 4.
