3.30 Cartmel – PUNITIVE (0.5pt win – 9/1 888Sport, 17-2 generally)
Admirable 12-year-old Mill Green heads the betting for this four-runner veterans’ handicap chase at around the 5-4 mark but after placing over hurdles at both the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals in 2022 and in 2023, he’s not looked the same horse this spring, fading into 15th place in the Pertemps Final and missing Aintree. Admittedly, Nicky Henderson’s yard is in much better form now but 5-4 about a horse without a win for three years looks too skinny and he’s been let down by his jumping in chase company before. None of the three alternatives is rock solid but I’ll throw a small dart at PUNITIVE, despite a poor effort here on Saturday. That run might have been needed and his stamina for this 3m5f trip is proven.
4.15 Leicester – YOUARENOTFORGIVEN (1pt win – 9/1 bet365, 17/2 William Hill)
Course expert YOUARENOTFORGIVEN looks the value play in this 1m handicap. Well drawn in stall 4 of 11, Tony Carroll’s six-year-old has Leicester form figures of 11 (2-2), with the wins at 16-1 (by two lengths) and 15-2 (by two and a half lengths). Both wins came on his second start of the season and he’ll improver for last month’s seasonal debut fourth at eight at Bath. Faster ground would have been preferable but he’s still worth a bet.
