2.30 Lingfield – MART (1pt win – 100/30 bet365, William Hill, 3/1 generally)
MART was only eighth of 12 at Southwell last time but that run would have been needed after a 93-day break and he can do better now returned to his favourite venue. Dylan Cunha’s four-year-old has lost all six starts when rested for more than four weeks and is best judged on his record in Class 5 or lower company, when returned to the track four weeks or sooner since his latest start, of 6611312211107210 (7-16) for a profit of £28.88 to a £1 level stake at SP.
6.45 Newcastle – LION’S HOUSE (1pt win – 6/1 generally)
Linda Perratt’s overnight market movers have a good record on the all-weather, landing 17 of their 77 starts for a profit of £64.62 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£105.57 at Betfair SP after 2% commission) and LION’S HOUSE has been nibbled at (6-1 from 7-1). The four-year-old fared best of those to come from off the pace when third at Musselburgh at the beginning of this month and will be happier back on the all-weather. The son of Oasis Dream is now 0-6 on turf but has form figures on Tapeta of 116714 (3-6), with the latest fourth place (August 21st this year) another eyecatching effort as he emerged best of the closers when it paid to be on the front end. The usual Newcastle headwind should be in play tonight and there are a couple in here that I’m happy to oppose, including last-time out Class 5 course and distance winner DARK KESTREL who is 0-23 above that level (tonight’s race is a Class 4 handicap).
