DAKOTA DAWN was beaten by more than eight lengths when a 25-1 fourth of five at Ripon on her debut in late April, but she had excuses. She was untidy at the start, raced keenly and ran green at a track that is notoriously difficult for juveniles thanks to the ridges/undulations. That form has also been boosted – the easy winner Clear Force made the frame at Listed level next time, the four-and-a-half-length runner-up Secret Hideaway went on to cause a 33-1 upset in Listed company at York and Mare Of London, the 16-length last of five, was placed at 100-1 at Kempton on her next outing. She’s likely to take a big step forward to day and is worth a small each-way interest at a double-figure price.
I also want to back Richard Hannon’s SINJ who wasn’t best positioned when third to Angel Numbers at Chepstow on her debut. The Too Darn Hot filly hung left towards the centre of the track when those who hugged the stands’ side rail dominated. She had a similar trip fourth-placed Our Cody who ran a good race at Chelmsford yesterday and the switch to a left-handed track could suit.
7.15 Windsor – SO DARN HOT (1pt win – 7/2 bet365, Paddy Power)
Top weight SO DARN HOT drops down to Class 3 level after his solid 8-1 third to the progressive Invictus Gold at Newmarket where he did best of those to come from midfield or further back. His record over tonight’s 6f trip, since his racecourse debut, reads 311103 (4-6) and I’m happy with his stall 7 of 10 draw as the inside rail (low draws) isn’t the advantage that many pundits and punters think it is, especially when they water. He was due to run over 7f at Goodwood the other Saturday but was scratched, probably on account of his poor wide draw.
