NARLITA’s record on officially soft or heavy going reads 634221226 (1-9), with the latest defeat
by just 2.75 lengths over an inadequate 1m2.5f trip. The five-year-old wasn’t disgraced in this race last year, finishing sixth on unsuitably quick ground, and she looks set to go well in the first-time cheekpieces. She’ll have to be tucked in from her wide draw, but the early pace should be strong enough to help the closers and she has the ground in her favour. Filtering her speed figures on soft/heavy going only puts her at the top of the pile in this 17-runner contest but she’s available to back at a big price.
7.30 Windsor – AGOSTINO (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
AGOSTINO could only finish a three-length fifth of ten on the all-weather at Lingfield last
month, but he got into a fierce battle for the early lead with Coast, seeing off the rival before weakening in the last half furlong. Coast finished almost 12 lengths behind him in fifth place and he might be able to burn off his rivals in this 5f handicap, despite his 0-12 record on turf. Recent evidence has suggested that the far side of the track is quickest, favouring high draws, and I’m hoping/expecting Haley Turner to take his straight over to that side from his stall 8 of 8 draw.
