5.00 Down Royal – DANCING STEVE (1pt win – 9/1 Paddy Power, 17-2 Hills)
They went hard up front in the 1m Clieveragh Handicap at Listowel last Monday, and the race was set up for the closers. The first five finishers were described by the Racing Post as “slowly into stride, help up in midfield”, “midfield”, “held up in midfield”, “in rear” and “midfield”. There were five runners vying for the early lead when their speed touched 40mph and four of them – ACADEMY WINNER, EASTERN WIND, DROP THE DIP and LILIKOI – dropped out of the back of the TV and filled the last four places in the 15-runner line-up. The exception was DANCING STEVE, whose ten-length seventh was a fine effort in the circumstances and the market looks to have over-reacted to that effort. He’s up in trip to an extended 1m2f today but won over 1m1f at Tipperary on his penultimate start and he kept on well when a 66-1 one-length third over course and distance in June. The ground might be a shade slower than preferred but he’s still worth an interest.

5.40 Windsor – LAWN RANGER (1pt win – 20/1 bet365)
Form figures at Windsor of 411513750414531 (5-15) for a profit of £6.48 to a £1 level stake at SP suggest that Mick Attwater’s LAWN RANGER is worth a second look in this 1m2f handicap. The big field is a nagging concern for one who needs to dominate but he looks the sole pace in the pace and should be worst across to the far side rail – likely to be favoured on the prevailing heavy going – in the straight. There’s also the possibility of multiple non-runners because of the heavy ground, which won’t be a problem for the selection.
