Andrew Mount looks to start the week on a winning note and has a trio of selections for the racing on Monday 6th October…

3.23 Killarney (HALF NUTZ – 1pt win – 4/1 bet365, 7/2 generally)
HALF NUTZ was a big eyecatcher at Listowel on his recent debut for Terence O’Brien, doing best of the closers when a six-and-a-half length fourth of 15 to The Blue Panther (“made all”) just under a fortnight ago in a race that is already working out well. Fifth-placed Mowgli (“in rear”) was a winner for this column at Bellewstown next time, sixth-placed Micasso (“slowly into stride, soon midfield”) was beaten by just half a length at the next time of asking while Alex Belardo, beaten by 11 lengths in eighth, was second at Ayr when heavily backed on his next outing. He’s up in trip to 1m for the first time in his long career but only he and main market rival VIERSON clocked anything like a reasonable time on their latest starts, and he looks worth a bet.
4.20 Wolverhampton – FIRST GREYED (1pt win – 10/1 generally)
The Thomas Faulkner-trained FIRST GREYED was beaten by more than 16 lengths when a 40-1 fourth at Ffos Las on his latest assignment but he raced keenly under an inexperienced amateur jockey and was only just beaten for second place. The seven-year-old will be much happier back on the all-weather, having recording form figures of 8111 (3-4) on artificial surfaces, including 111 (3-3) on Tapeta. He’s only 2lb higher than when winning in a fast time over the 8.6f trip here on April 1st, a win that impressed me as he was drawn on the inside rail.
5.25 Pontefract – TIRIAC (1pt win – 4/1 generally)
TIRIAC did well to run fourth to the well handicapped Elegant Erin at Beverley last time as he missed a beat at the start and was drawn widest of all in stall 10 of 10 (non-runner adjusted, winner drawn in stall 1). He was a huge eyecatcher at Thirsk the time before when repeatedly denied a clear run on his way to a 50-1 sixth of 16 behind Eternal Sunshine, who won the Portland on her next start. The five-year-old is now 0-7 since joining Paul Midgley from the Jack Channon yard but drops to Class 5 level for the first time in his career. He’s drawn wide again but the race should be run to suit, and he should be staying on to good effect down the outside, not a bad place to be at Pontefract on soft ground.
