1.30 York – PEARL OF WINDSOR (2pts win – 20-1 generally)
PEARL OF WINDSOR landed a 5f Sandown maiden and 5f Chepstow novice before her 22-1 sixth of 14 in the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr, a race that is working out incredibly well. Her patient running style was unhelpful that day and the form has been well advertised – runner-up Uncle Don ran a blinder against the pace bias in the Two Year Old Trophy at Redcar last week, fourth-placed King Of Light was a winner at Haydock, third-placed Coto De Caza won the Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket yesterday (a race in which Pearl Of Windsor was a non-runner) and End Of Story (14th) and King’s Call (8th) ran one-two at York yesterday. She has the outside draw in stall 9 of 9 which might not prove ideal, but I still want to have a good bet on her.

3.45 Hexham – PINOT ROUGE (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
PINOT ROUGE did this column a favour when landed a Listed mares’ hurdle at Doncaster at odds of 20-1 (from 33-1) last spring, having caught the eye when a close-up 40-1 third at Newcastle after a long absence the time before. Susan Corbet’s six-year-old followed that with an 80-1 fourth in Grade 1 company at Aintree and I’m very excited to see how this point-to-point winner fares on her Rules chase debut. This 2m4.5f trip on good to soft going could be an insufficient test of stamina but the stiff track could compensate and she’s worth a bet.
4.00 Chepstow – JETOILE (2pt win – 5-1 generally)
This 2m3.5f handicap chase looks an absolute belter and the one I want to side with his JETOILE. Ryan Potter’s nine-year-old has been off the track since his fine 18-1 fourth of 17 in a Grade 3 handicap chase at the Punchestown festival but runs well when fresh, causing a 25-1 upset in the Old Roan Chase on his comeback last term, finishing a close second to Aucunrisque on his reappearance/chase debut in 2022/23 and going down by just over one length in third when 80-1 for a maiden hurdle at Cheltenham on his first start in the 2021/22 season. Throw in his Chepstow record of 111 (3-3), with the wins by 9.5, 3.5 and 9 lengths, and he looks a solid proposition.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Unlucky Horses & Eyecatchers are Over-Bet Next Time & Should be Avoided
Unlucky horses in-running are so often put into tracker immediately to try and find some value on them next time out. However, Andrew Mount analyses whether such horses take up too much of the market, and whether your bets are better placed elsewhere. For several years I wrote a weekly Eyecatchers column for GG.co.uk and…
