3.00 Doncaster – ROOM SERVICE (1pt e/w – 15-2 bet365, four places)
Quinault has possibilities if getting loose on the lead in the 7f Group 2 Park Stakes, but I’ve had ROOM SERVICE In mind for an autumn campaign all season and I like the application of first-time cheekpieces. Kevin Ryan’s runners often improve for this headgear (Ain’t Nobody wore it when a 100-1 second in the Nunthorpe) and I’m prepared to forgive his Curragh disappointment on July 20th when we last saw him as he was always caught wide. He was second best of the closers when a 28-1 fourth at Haydock on his reappearance and was only one length behind all-the-way winner Quinault when runner-up at York next time. Slower ground would have been preferable but I’m struggling to see him finish outside of the first three or four.
3.40 Doncaster – RAHIEBB (0.5pt e/w – 33-1 Sky Bet, 28-1 bet365, 25-1 Betfred, all paying three places)t, both paying four places)
I wrote the following about RAHIEBB in Racing & Football Outlook after his fine third in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot…
“The first bend comes up soon after the start in the Queen’s Vase and, while low draws often struggle on the round course at Royal Ascot, it’s not been the case in this Group 2 contest since the distance was reduced from 2m to 1m6f in 2017, with all nine winners drawn in single figures. Low-drawn prominent racers enjoyed the best of things in last week’s renewal (first four drawn 4, 2, 10 and 3 of 13), with the winner, runner-up and fourth prominent throughout. RAHIEBB, third from stall 10, fared best of those to come from midfield or further back and was the one to take from the race. The form of last month’s York second to Merchant was further boosted when that rival took the King George V Handicap on Thursday and he could yet develop into a genuine St Leger candidate.”
He took a backward step when only fourth to Merchant but that was a messy race started by flag instead of starting stalls and he raced closer to the early pace than he usually does. The return to patient tactics could help and with a few firms paying three places he looks worth a small each-way interest.
5.18 Musselburgh – ARDIUS INVICTA (1pt win – 9/1 bet365)
Earlier this week I tipped Guernsey Lady (WON 11-8f from 6-1) at Wolverhampton as she’d run well from a poor low draw in a Newmarket sales race on her latest outing and I’m with ARDIUS INVICTA on the same angle today. Craig Lidster’s filly finished eighth of 20 when 16-1 at Newmarket, two places in front of Guernsey Lady and just two places and one length behind Anaisa, best of the low draws, who was backed from 40-1 into 12-1 when scoring in Listed company at Ripon on her next start. She was beaten on her sole previous start in nursery company but that was when having plenty of use made of her over a stiff 6f and I like the cut back to 5f today (her sole win and three of her top four Racing Post Ratings came at this distance).

Andrew Mount On…Ray Dawson: Analysis Of Underrated Jockey
