Andrew Mount was in sparkling form on Friday, as he landed a 12/1 winner, and he’s here with his best bets for a cracking day’s racing on Saturday 15th November.

1.10 Cheltenham – CHAMBARD (0.5pt e/w – 50/1 bet365, five places, 40/1 generally)
We had a good day yesterday thanks to Ali Star Bert (Won 5-1 from 12-1) and Mister Coffey (advised to finish exactly second and 7-1 before the off in that market) which will ease the pain if Cheltenham is abandoned today, though that’s looking increasingly unlikely as they’ve only changed the going to ‘heavy, soft in places’. KELCE looks interesting in this 3m1f amateur riders’ handicap chase, having finished a close-up fourth in a similar course and distance contest at Cheltenham’s October meeting – often a good pointer to this race – but his chance is well covered in offers of around 6-1 and the ground is much softer this time. At the prices, I’d rather throw a coupe of quid at CHAMBARD for the Venetia Williams yard, whose handicap chasers usually run well at this time of year – 133 winners from 662 runners (201%) this century for a profit of £212.54 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 98.96, A/E = 1.34). Readers of this column with a long memory may recall that I tipped him for the 2022 Kim Muir Handicap Chase, a race he won at 40-1, and while the veteran’s form has tailed off in recent years – he’s without a win since landing the Becher Chase in December 2023 – he’s worth a small each-way bet at a daft price. He pulled up in three of his four runs last term (beaten by 36 lengths when seventh of 11 in the other) but finished a close second at 12-1 when reappearing in this race two years ago and is 4lb lower this time around.
2.20 Cheltenham – IL RIDOTO (1pt e/w – 6/1 bet365, William Hill)
IL RIDOTO was tipped up in this column when winning this race at 10-1 last year and I’m happy to go in again. Paul Nicholls’ eight-year-old also ran well in the 2022 (fourth of 14) and 2023 (third of 14) renewals when making his seasonal reappearance. Last year, he had a prep race at Chepstow and that made the difference. He’s had a similar prep this time around and his record for his current yard on his second start of the season reads 1421 (2-4), with the fourth place in a 16-runner handicap chase and the runner-up effort by a short head. He runs off a similar mark this time around and will be hard to kick out of the frame. I’ll save on Venetia’s HUNTER LEGEND though he falls down on a couple of stats – last time out winners have a poor recent record as do those who prepped in Class 3 or lower company (he won a Class 3 contest at Bangor on his latest start).
3.10 Wetherby – FRESH PERSPECTIVE (1pt win – 5/4 bet365, 6/5 generally)
This introductory hurdle is confined to hurdle debutants or those with just one prior run over timber and it’s the second group that has provided all seven previous winners of this 2m contest. FRESH PERSPECTIVE didn’t jump brilliantly on his hurdles debut at Fontwell early last month but still won with authority in a useful time and won eased down in a Uttoxeter bumper in his only other left-handed start under Rules.
3.43 Wetherby – CERENDIPITY (1pt win – 7/2 bet365, Sky Bet, Paddy Power)
I was initially interested in ISSAM for this 2m3f handicap chase as he fits the profile of recent winners but his record away from Exeter is troubling. Tom Symonds seven-year-old has form figures at the Devon venue of 21131 (3-5) but is just one from ten elsewhere, with that victory coming at Wincanton – another right-handed West Country venue. Instead, I’m siding with CERENDIPITY who clocked a fast time when chasing home BE AWARE at Stratford on his reappearance, a run that would have been needed. Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith’s eight-year-old has form figures second time out in the past four seasons of 1122 and his stable is in fine form.
