1.15 Haydock – CERULEAN BAY (1pt ew – 10/1 William Hill, Coral)

CERULEAN BAY was unsuited by the steady early gallop when third to Silent Move over course and distance on good to firm ground last time, faring best of those to come from off the pace. The likely strong pace will suit, and he won’t be inconvenienced by today’s much slower ground. He’s the right age profile for this race and, granted a clear run, is likely to be finishing to good effect.

13:15 Betfred Silver Bowl Handicap (Heritage Handicap)

1.30 Goodwood – AL SHABAB STORM (1pt each-way – 5/1 Paddy Power, 9/2 Betfair)

There’s a strong stat associated with this 7f handicap – those drawn in stalls 1 to 5 who finished in the top three in their prep race have won eight of the past ten renewals (from just 25 qualifiers) for a profit of £50.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. There should be plenty of pace on and that will suit AL SHABAB STORM (stall 4 of 16) who ran second by a neck in a big field at Chester last time. The step back up in trip will suit and while the ground is quicker than expected, there should still be enough juice in it for him

13:30 William Hill Harroways Handicap

2.25 Haydock – ALASKAN GOLD (0.5pt ew – 33/1 generally)

On recent evidence a high draw could be advantageous in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes, even in this eight-runner line-up and ALASKAN GOLD looks well berthed in 6 of 8. Karl Burke’s colt will appreciate the cut back to 6f after two defeats over an extra furlong and was only beaten by half a length when 16-1 for a Doncaster Listed race when last encountering deep ground over 6f on a flat track.

14:25 Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Sandy Lane Stakes (Group 2)

4.05 Chester – BOARDMAN (1pt win – 16/1 generally)

BOARDMAN could only finish eighth of 13 to Percy’s when we bet him here last month, but the track was massively favouring early pace that day and his patient style was at a huge disadvantage. The first five home received the following comments from the Racing Post…

…Tim Easterby’s veteran fared third best of those to come from midfield or further back and best of those to come from the rear. His record from March to May, after a recent outing, reads 111151105518 for a profit of £22.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. There’s plenty of pace on, despite the small field, and his high draw could be advantageous if the inside rail Is riding slower (often the case on soft ground).

16:05 Camden Stout Handicap

7.15 Windsor – NAVELLO (1pt win – 15/2 888Sport)

NAVELLO tends to come to hand early and caused a 22-1 upset over 6f at Wolverhampton on his reappearance in March. He matched his career-best RPR (96) when beaten by half a length into second in a 14-runner 5f handicap at Newmarket’s Craven meeting, doing really well to finish so close under a patient ride when the tailwind might life difficult for such tactics. His record from March to June now reads 8111302842815713112 (7-19) for a profit of £49.83.

19:15 Sri Lanka, The Jewel Of Asia Handicap
