2.40 Haydock – UNCLE DON (1pt e/w – 33/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power)
I had expected good things of UNCLE DON this season after his best-of-the-high-draws seventh of 19 to Candy in the Listed Two Year Old Trophy at Redcar last October. However, he finished unplaced in Class 2 handicaps over 6f/7f in the spring before a respectable 11-1 fifth of nine at Chester late last month on his first start since a gelding operation. Richard Fahey’s son of Oasis Dream fared best of the closers that day and looks backable with that run behind him from what could be a handy draw in stall 12. There’s plenty of early pace around him from the runners in stalls 11, 10 and 8 and he should get a good tow into the race.
3.40 Newmarket – ERZINDJAN (1pt e/w – 25/1 generally)
On Friday’s evidence they are likely to come stands’ side in the Cambridgeshire, suggesting that we want to be with a high-drawn runner. I like the claims of EZRINDJAN (stall 24 of 25) who was a big eyecatcher on his stable debut at York in July where he finished an 80-1 fourth of 18 in a 1m1f handicap after a year off. The ex-Paddy Twomey-trained seven-year-old ran another solid race over the same course and distance next time, finishing a three-length 9-1 seventh of 15 and doing third best of those ridden patiently. Newmarket is likely to prove kinder to his patient running style and his stall 24 draw looks very useful.
4.00 Ripon – ELDEYAAR (0.5pt e/w – 15/2 bet365)
ELDEYAAR ran a good race when we were on at Wolverhampton last time, finishing second at 14-1. He was only half a length behind the progressive Macarone that day and was two lengths clear of third-placed Nordic Glory, a well backed winner when returned to Wolverhampton six days later. Fifth-placed Ever Driven has also won since. His record in September now stands at 611113412 (5-9) for a profit of £29.83 to a £1 level stake at SP, compared to just one from 45 (-£42.50) in other months. The return to turf will help and he won a division of this race last year. It’s just a shame that fellow front-runner Fenlander is in opposition.
4.15 Newmarket – SECRET ECHO (1pt win – 6/1 bet365) & QUIESCENT (1pt win – 13/2 William Hill)
There are some strong stats associated with the “Jersey Lily” Fillies Nursery – Newmarket trainers do well, as do handicap debutantes and fillies with a foaling date from January to March. Roger Varian’s SECRET ECHO (see Tuesday’s ‘Andrew’s Angles’ column for a full breakdown of the stats), who looks well drawn in stall 9 of 9, broke her duck at Beverley last time and qualifies on all counts. I also want to side with the other qualifier – QUIESCENT (stall 5). Hamad Al Jehani’s daughter of Pinatubo was a winner on soft ground at Chepstow last time but her action suggests that today’s much quicker conditions will suit. I’ll be playing the reversed forecast on this pair too.

Andrew’s Angles – Vital Gelding Stats And Trainers To Watch
