3.15 Haydock – THOR DE CERISSY (1pt win – 7/1 bet365, 13-2 BetVictor)
THOR DE CERISY bolted up over the 2m3.5f trip at Chepstow on his penultimate start and finished alone over the same course and distance next time. Neil Mulholland’s ten-year-old has form figures in fields of ten or fewer runners of 17162333P15245F11 (5-18) and I’m surprised to see him trading as big as 7-1 rather than 7-2 for this 2m4f veterans’ handicap chase. He fits the age profile (i.e. a ten-year-old) of veterans’ handicap chase winners and looks worth a small interest.
4.25 Haydock – CREAM OF THE WEST (1.5pt win, 9/2 bet365, 4-1 William Hill)
CREAM OF THE WEST has improved with each of his three runs since handicapping according to RPRs (Racing Post Ratings), scoring over the extended 2m5f trip at Ayr in December, finishing a close-up second over 3m at the same venue 55 days later when the run was possibly needed and winning with more in hand than the neck margin suggested over 2m7.5f at Hexham earlier this month. There could be plenty more to come and his connections must have been please with just a 4lb rise for his latest success.
4.45 Musselburgh – EY UP IT’S MAGGIE (1.5pt ew – 14/1 William Hill)
EY UP IT’S MAGGIE loves the mud and will relish conditions at Musselburgh this afternoon. The Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood-trained six-year-old had a prep over 6f at Southwell a few weeks ago which will put her spot on for today’s run over her optimum 5f trip. Her ten runs at this trip on the slowest ground she has encountered have returned form figures of 1513131514 (5-10), improving to 1131114 (5-7) in Class 3 or lower company. The latest defeat is safely ignored as he went off way too qui k and the three who beat her came from midfield or further back. She has a useful draw in stall 8 of 12 and looks set to go close at least.
