3.35pm Goodwood – NUMBER (1pt win – 12/1 bet365)
NUMBER has yet to race over this 7f trip but it’s unlikely to be an issue on breeding and he has form on the prevailing deep ground, finishing a one-length 14-1 third over 5f here on officially heavy going on his racecourse debut. He has been campaigned over 6f since that run and though beating only a
couple home in a hot York nursery last time, it’s easy to forgive that effort as he was 50-1 and had a terrible draw (stall 15 of 17). Managing Director, tenth from stall 14, won on his next start and I like the booking of Tom Marquand.

4.00pm Naas – NOSTRA CASA (1pt ew – 20/1 bet365)
NOSTRA CASA surprised me when winning a 2m handicap on the Flat at Tramore last time, as that run came after a break of just 17 days and I had him earmarked as a best-fresh type. Paul Flynn’s lightly raced eight-year-old returned from a mammoth 821-day absence to score at Sligo in April 2023 and won at Thurles in October of the same year after a 53-day break. He also won at the first time of asking this term (179 days off) and though only ninth of 17 at Galway on his penultimate start when returning from 66 days off the track, he had little chance from his poor high draw, doing well to finish so close. He’s been freshened up since Tramore (57 days) and is worth an each-way punt.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Unlucky Horses & Eyecatchers are Over-Bet Next Time & Should be Avoided
Unlucky horses in-running are so often put into tracker immediately to try and find some value on them next time out. However, Andrew Mount analyses whether such horses take up too much of the market, and whether your bets are better placed elsewhere. For several years I wrote a weekly Eyecatchers column for GG.co.uk and…
