4.15 Chelmsford – OUR CODY (1pt win – 6/1 generally)
Stall 11 makes life tricky for the Richard Hughes-trained OUR CODY in this 6f restricted maiden but there’s compensation in the price and, with plenty of newcomers between her and the inside rail, she should be able to get a reasonable early pitch. She was a big eyecatcher at Chepstow on her debut where she was sent off as the 9-4 favourite in the 5f maiden won by Angel Numbers. The Chepstow ‘golden highway’ was fully operational that day but she had the worst of the draw in stall 1 of 8 and never got anywhere near the inside rail, challenging widest of all. She was allowed to come home in her home time when it was obvious that she couldn’t win and should have plenty more to offer.
5.45 Chelmsford – ROSENPUR (0.5pt e/w – 15/2 generally, four places ) & DIAMOND DREAMER (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 Betfrair, Paddy Power, Sky Bet, 22/1 generally, four places)
This 5f handicap looks an absolute belter and while he faces competition for the early lead from several rivals, I still want an involvement on ROSENPUR who will appreciate the return to a left-handed track after his fourth of six at Chepstow last time. Jennie Candlish’s five-year-old finished a solid second to course expert Roman Dragon at Chester on his penultimate start, a run that took his record at the minimum trip of 5f on left-handed tracks to 21103212 (4-8).
If the pace does collapse then one who could take advantage is DIAMOND DREAMER, who looks well drawn in stall 3. The Patrick Chamings-trained five-year-old comfortably landed his sole previous Chelmsford start and his record on the all-weather when returned to the track within eight weeks of his previous start reads
6.15 Chelmsford – CIARA PEARL (1pt win – 15/2 bet365, William Hill, 888sport, 7/1 generally)
CIARA PEARL took her record in fillies’ handicaps to 115601223611 (5-12) when successful at Nottingham last month, including a two from two haul on Polytrack. She has a lot of weight today (10-07) but four of those five wins came when shouldering top weight and she’s well drawn in stall 3. LIKEALOT dominates the market, but she’s stuck out wide in stall 9 and was underwhelming at Newbury last time, albeit at Listed level. SHE’S A WARRIOR – by sire Sioux Nation whose progeny have a fine record in fields of ten or fewer runners such as this – might prove to be the biggest danger.

Andrew’s Angles – A Look at British vs Irish Trainers on the Flat
During the jumps season we’re used to British trainers being on the receiving end of a good kicking from Willie Mullins and other Irish trainers. It must have been heartbreaking for Dan Skelton to try all season to land his first trainers championship only for Mullins to win easily despite not seemingly bothered until the…
