2.25 Leopardstown – NORWALK HAVOC (1pt win – 3-1 bet365, 5-2 general)
NORWALK HAVOC has improved for headgear the last twice, going down by a neck in second place when 14-1 for an 18-runner handicap at the Galway festival in late July before his ninth of 31 from a poor high draw in the Cambridgeshire, doing best of the centre group. Jessica Harrington’s gelding was a heavy-ground winner on his only previous visit to Leopardstown and he can break Ger Lyons’ stranglehold on this race (he’s won it in four of the last five years and saddles the current favourite, Power Under Me).

4.35 Kempton – BLAIRGOWRIE (1pt win – 9-4 William Hill, bet365)
I was really surprised to see Killer Kane put in as the early 5-2 favourite for this 3m handicap chase as he always needs at least a couple of runs at the start of the season before hitting peak form. His record on his first two runs each term reads 24336453 (0-8) and his five career wins have come in February/March. Quite why anyone would want to back him at those sort of odds is beyond me, though six newspaper tipsters say I’m wrong.
Nicky Henderson’s lightly raced eight-year-old BLAIRGOWRIE clocked a useful time for the grade when runner-up at Newbury in January on his chase debut/first start for 662 days and first time out could be when to catch him. He has the most potential in this line-up and is worth a small interest, despite having shortened up overnight.
