3.45 Southwell – TRUE PROMISE (1pt win – 14/1 bet365, 10/1 generally)
Kevin Ryan does well with progeny of the sire Washington DC on the all-weather, scoring with 11 of the 30 qualifiers for a profit of £63.25 to a £1 level stake at SP. Today’s qualifier, TRUE PROMISE, has a good record on the all-weather in Class 4 or lower company, recording form figures of 1182115762 (4-10) for a profit of £17.13 to a £1 level stake at SP. On the Tapeta surfaces at Newcastle and Southwell only the figures improve to 1121176 (4-7) for a profit of £20.13. He’ll appreciate the return to Southwell after his modest seventh of nine at Beverley last week, his first run following wind surgery, and he’s 3lb lower than his last winning mark.
4.30 Wetherby – GLORY HYDE (1pt win – 15/2 bet365)
GLORY HYDE caught the eye at Musselburgh on her final start last year, finishing second from a poor wide draw when 11-1 for a 5f handicap (first four drawn 10, 2, 9, 11) and also looked one to follow closely when seventh of 17 to Thunder Star at Doncaster on last month’s comeback. Roger Fell’s four-year-old pressed the early pace and got no cover from the strong wind, doing well to finish just over two lengths behind the patiently-ridden winner. Fifth-placed Glory Fighter, also ridden prominently, didn’t do much for the form when we bet him at Catterick the other day but fourth-home Bear Rock (“prominent, pressed leaders if out”) scored at Haydock on Saturday to give that race a boost. Glory Hyde was only 11th of 14 at Musselburgh on his next start but he was always caught wide from his poor low draw and it’s safe to draw a line through that run.
