2.42 Pontefract – ZOUS JUICE (1pt win – 11/2 William Hill, 5-1 generally)
This 1m handicap looks tricky, as the pace map suggests that stall 1 (non-runner adjusted) runner Wait And Hope could be in receipt of an easy lead but the three-year-old has changed yards since we last saw him (Karl Burke to Ruth Carr) and is not certain to go from the front for new connections. Young Fire (stall 4) ended a losing run at Haydock last time but he’s better there than anywhere else and today’s track is not ideal, nor is the pace scenario. I’m drawn to the pair of three-year-old handicap debutants, especially Michael & David Easterby’s ZOUS JUICE. I’m slightly surprised that the handicapper didn’t make him go again before allotting a mark as he was given a very easy time of things by Jo Mason when a 40-1 fifth of eight at Thirsk last time. He’d also caught the eye when a 100-1 sixth of ten (beaten by just over five lengths) at Catterick on his debut in mid-May and while stall 6 of 8 is not ideal today, a mark of 65 could vastly underestimate him.
