3.10 Fairyhouse – OSCARS BROTHER (1pt win – 20/1 bet365)
OSCARS BROTHER, runner-up in all three starts in points, kept the sequence going when finding only 1-2 favourite Largy Hill too good in a 3m maiden hurdle at Cork in early January, form that was franked when the winner followed up in Grade 3 company at Thurles. Backed from 50-1 into 25-1, Damian Murphy’s six-year-old travelled strongly in rear and gradually crept into contention on the final circuit. The jolly proved almost three lengths too good, but it was a fine rules debut, and he confirmed that promise with a 13-length victory in a Limerick maiden hurdle next time. He takes a steep ride in class to Grade 2 company today and he also drops in trip to 2m4f but looks most progressive and is worth chancing at a big price.
3.40 Plumpton – MAKIN’YOURMINDUP (2pt win – 11/8 bet365)
MAKIN’YOURMINDUP can’t operate on right-handed tracks but the Paul Nicholls-trained seven-year-old took his record left-handed to 611111 (5-6) when staying on strongly to score at Newbury last time. Today’s sharper track might not be 100% ideal, but his trainer regards him as Welsh National type for next season and he’s likely to prove hard to beat.
