4.52 Chester – YANIFER (1pt win – 100/30 bet365)
YANIFER is best on turf from June onwards, provided he’s had a race within the past four weeks, landing eight of his 20 starts under these conditions for a profit of £26.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. Harriet Bethell’s seven-year-old also enjoys left-handed turf courses and his combined record at Bath, Catterick and Chester reads 1182131577 (4-10) for a profit of £12.63 to a £1 level stake at SP, improving to 1181157 (4-7) for a profit of £15.63 when returned to the track within four weeks. He won this race last year off a 3lb lower mark, finished a solid second at Doncaster 15 days ago and is tactically versatile, winning from the front and from off the pace. He looks well drawn in stall 4 and is worth a bet to repeat last year’s success.
5.12 Yarmouth – ASTRAL SEA (1pt win – 9/1 generally)
ASTRAL SEA shaped well on her debut in a 7f novice contest on Lingfield’s Polytrack last November, finishing fifth to Noble Champion (now rated 116). Two more all-weather runs followed last winter and while the absence since January is a slight concern ahead of her turf/handicap debut she looks worth chancing given the fine form of the Simon & Ed Crisford yard. The Crisfords do exceptionally well with runners making their handicap debuts, scoring with 83 of the 329 qualifiers (25.2% strike-rate) for a profit of £15.33 to a £1 level stake at SP. In Class 4 or lower company only the strike-rate creeps up to 27.9% (70 winners from 251 bets) for a profit of £33.33. The other three runners who beat her in that Noble Champion novice are now rated 78, 74 and 68 and her opening mark of 57 looks exploitable in this lowly Class 6 contest.
