1.33 Huntingdon – SALT ROCK (1pt win – 8/1 William Hill)
SALT ROCK trailed home last of eight when 6-4 favourite for a Warwick bumper on his debut for Kim Bailey back in March of last year but showed plenty more at Exeter eight months later on his sole subsequent outing. The son of Soldier Of Fortune was sent off as 12-1 in the novices’ hurdle won by Gidleigh Park, a race run in a fast time, coming home third, albeit by 28 lengths. That race worked out extraordinarily well, with the odds-in winner going on to complete a hat-trick before his sixth place in the Albert Bartlett at last season’s Cheltenham festival, after which he was rated 138. Seven-and-a-half length runner-up Range, now rated 123, won on his next outing, while the sixth and eight have won over fences this term and the 72-length tenth on two of his next three starts. There could be plenty of improvement to come this term and he looks worth a small interest to upset odds-on favourite No Questions Asked.

3.08 Huntingdon – NO RISK WITH LOU (1.5pt win – 11/2 generally)
NO RISK WITH LOU reportedly bled from the nose when an 18-length fifth of nine at Doncaster last December on his most recent outing but, given his good record fresh, I’m going to chance the Alex Hales-trained seven-year-old to bounce back. His stable is in good form and his two seasonal debuts for his current handler have produced wins – a 13-2 good-ground maiden hurdle success at Southwell in November 2022 and a seven-length 7-1 win here at Huntingdon in October last year on his chase debut. It’s a shame that fellow front-runner Give Me A Moment is in opposition but he’s on a losing run of 11 and the first-time cheekpieces are not certain to help.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Sedgefield Form Doesn’t Travel
I’ve heard the expression “Sedgefield form doesn’t travel” from racing pundits on numerous occasions (as recently as last week on William Hill radio) and I’ve often downgraded the chance of Sedgefield winners when they change venue for their next start. However, I’ve never dug into the stats in detail, and I want to use this…
