2.30 Chester – INNSE GALL (0.5pt ew – 10/1 bet365)
INNSE GALL is forecast to start at 25-1 for this extended 1m2f handicap and while we’re unlikely to see anything like that sort of price, Craig Lidster’s gelding is still worth a small interest at the prevailing odds. The six-year-old has a strong seasonal pattern to his form, recording form figures in August/September of 131231313431856 (5-15), improving to 1121131 (5-7) in Class 5 company only. Sadly, he’s in a Class 4 today but his August/September record in this grade reads 3336 (3-4) and I like the booking of Franny Norton.
5.15 Haydock – BACK SEE DAA (1pt win – 7/1 generally)
BACK SEE DAA was an eyecatching sixth of 18 in the 1m fillies’ handicap at Glorious Goodwood last year, doing best of those drawn low on slow ground (it was a big advantage to race on the stands’ side, favouring high draws) and had also caught the eye when repeatedly hampered in a 1m Sandown Listed race the time before. We didn’t see her again until Royal Ascot this year where she beat only one home in the Kensington Palace Stakes but she showed plenty more in Listed company at Deauville last time, finishing just over five lengths behind the winner when seventh of 14. She again struggled to see out the 1m trip that day and looks very interesting back at 7f and down to Class 3 fillies’ handicap company. She’s 3lb lower than for that fine Goodwood effort at this time last year and the form is solid, with the horses who beat her including winner Choisya (now rated 10lb higher), runner-up Novus (19lb higher) and fourth-placed Royal Dress, a Group 3 winner last month and now 21lb higher.
