2.25 Newmarket – ASTRAL BEAU (1pt win – 10/1 bet365)
ASTRAL BEAU did too much too soon into the headwind when runner-up in Listed company at Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting, doing well to finish second to Charyn, who followed up in a Sandown Group 2. Most punters and pundits will dismiss her chances in today’s 1m1f Group 2 contest on account of the faster going she’s set to encounter but it’s worth remembering that she was only narrowly denied over the extended 1m trip on good to firm going at Epsom last summer and she’s unlikely to face competition for the easy lead.
3.20 Salisbury – UMMING N’AHING (2pt win – 14/1 bet365)
UMMING N’AHING disappointed on his final two starts on turf last autumn and failed to beat a rival when reappearing in a handicap at Wolverhampton 34 days ago. Bill Turner’s 28-1 shot weakened two furlongs out to finish over ten lengths behind the winner, but this run was clearly needed, and he can be backed now returned to turf. He landed his first three turf starts over 5f last spring, on going ranging from good to soft to heavy, and there should be more than enough juice in the ground today to make him worth a punt.
3.40 Newmarket – DANCE SEQUENCE (1pt win – 11/2 Coral, 5/1 bet365)
3.40 Newmarket- ROLICA (0.5pt ew – 66/1 Coral, Bet365)
I wrote the following about DANCE SEQUENCE after her debut win on the July Course last summer…
‘Early pace held sway in the majority of the many races run on the July Course at Newmarket last week and for much of the 7f Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies’ Stakes it looked like those at the head of affairs would be hard to catch. However, Charlie Appleby’s newcomer DANCE SEQUENCE picked up well from off the pace to score by a comfortable half-length from Upscale. The daughter of Dubawi started as the 5-6 favourite but it was still an impressive performance.’
She followed that with victory in the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes on the Rowley Mile, despite running green, and caught the eye when a neck second in the Nell Gwyn on her reappearance as she was ridden patiently when the tailwind made it difficult for hold-up horses to get competitive.
The Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained ROLICA could only finish third of six when the 3-1 favourite for a Nottingham fillies’ maiden last backend but she ran green on the heavy going and that experience was clearly needed. She took a massive step forward when reappearing at the Craven meeting, coming from off the pace to overhaul the front-running Vicario on a day that it was desperately difficult to make ground from the rear. The pair pulled over five lengths clear of the always-prominent third and she could go well at a huge price.

The 2000 Guineas is possibly the most hotly-anticipated race of the year, with favourite City Of Troy all the rage for the race.
