4.12 Fontwell – MIDNIGHT JEWEL (1pt win – 15-2 bet365)
Charlie Longsdon has his string in good form, scoring with the likes of Washpool, Delpotro and Almzahar Garde already this week and his MIDNIGHT JEWEL looks worth a bet to repeat last year’s win in this 2m3.5f handicap chase. His trainer typically does well at this time of year with his jumpers, scoring with 69 of his 274 September runners (prior to Stroll On By’s run in the 5.22 at Stratford on Saturday) for a profit of £74.38 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 50.05, A/E = 1.38). Midnight Jewel’s full record in September reads 1111 (4-4), with the wins at 4-1, 4-1, 6-5 and evens and he looks the only pace angle in this five-runner line-up. The market is made by Lermoos Legend, an easy winner at Market Rasen in mid-July when we last saw him, but the veteran tends to go off the boil from once the late spring/early summer has ended (he’s won seven times from May to July but is just one from 29 from August until April.
5.30 York – THEME PARK (0.5pt e/w – 14-1 generally)
THEME PARK’s two handicap wins have come from off the pace in fields of 12 or more runners and the tempo of this big-field apprentice handicap will be ideal for him. Nigel Tinkler’s five-year-old also has a good record in the month of September, recording form figures of 121 (2-3), with the defeat by a neck over course and distance when running off a handicap mark of 83. The son of Lope De Vega runs off 74 today and while the ground might be slower than preferred, he looked on his way back when a close-up 14-1 fourth at Redcar on August 23rd and is worth a small each-way interest.

Andrew Mount On…Ballydoyle Jockeys – Does Ryan Moore’s Injury Provide A Betting Opportunity?
Ryan Moore has been ruled out for the remainder of the Flat turf season with a broken leg, and I want to use this week’s article to discuss how his absence might affect Aidan O’Brien’s operation in the next few months, especially with the runners at British racecourses. Ryan Moore/Aidan O’Brien combination in Britain/Ireland Ryan…
