3.10 Nottingham – YELLOW LEMONS (1pt ew – 20/1 bet365, 18-1 generally, 16-1 Sky Bet who offer an extra place)
YELLOW LEMONS was only eighth of nine to Rolica in a 7f fillies’ maiden at Newmarket on her reappearance but her patient style was at a big disadvantage thanks to the strong tailwind and it was a respectable effort to go down by under ten lengths in the circumstances. The winner, also ridden patiently, boosted the form with a fine sixth in the 1000 Guineas next time and the seventh, Izipizi, who was only three-quarters of a length in front of Yellow Lemons, won a Bath maiden next time. Even the 23-length ninth gave the form a lift, placing at 100-1 next time. Richard Hannon’s filly finished well held at Chelmsford next time but was 66-1 in novice company and looks interesting now switched to fillies’ handicap company off a mark of just 61 and returned to turf.
6.20 Worcester -SOMESPRING SPECIAL (1.5pt win – 11/2 bet365, 4/1 generally)
I was very confident about the prospects of SOMESPRING SPECIAL at Bangor on May 18th and bet accordingly, but the 7-2 favourite could only finish fifth, flattening out in the home straight. It’s possible that the big field (11 ran) and step up to Class 2 level were against her, the ground was softer than ideal or perhaps she just needed longer to recover from her two wins at Plumpton/Cheltenham the previous month which came in the space of four days. Whatever the reason(s) for the defeat she’s out again (26 days later), drops back down to Class 3 level on quicker ground and is worth a small interest as the outsider of the four runners.
