3.35 Salisbury – QILIN QUEEN (1pt win, 14/1 bet365, William Hill, 1pt without Butterfly Wings, 4/1 Sky Bet, other firms will price up later)
So far this year, Ed Walker has form figures with his second time out two-year-olds of 114111125 (6-9) for a profit of £34.53 to a £1 level stake at SP and I like the chances of outsider QILIN QUEEN to keep the ball rolling. The daughter of Pinatubo ran a solid 12-1 third of seven at Newbury on last month’s debut, showing obvious signs of greenness in finishing behind runners form the Stoute and Gosden yards, both of whom hold Group entries in the near future. Aidan O’Brien’s Butterfly Wings will be a tough nut to crack, so with only seven runners rather than play each-way I want to split my stake between a win bet and a ‘without the favourite’ bet.
3.55 Chepstow – KALAMA SUNRISE (1pt win, 3/1 William Hill, 11/4 generally)
KALAMA SUNRISE drew a blank in her first eight starts but was transformed when the cheekpieces went on in early summer, recording form figures of 111122 (4-6). The wins came at Class 6 level but I was impressed with her runner-up effort to Young Fire in today’s Class 5 grade at Haydock last time as she pressed the pace from a long way out in an apprentice handicap that was teed up nicely for the closers. The return to this straight mile won’t inconvenience her – she has a 112 (2-3) record over course and distance, with the defeat by a short head.
