Andrew Mount has three best bets for Thursday across the seven meetings, with his top tips running at Carlisle and Chelmsford.

3.42 Carlisle – RICKETY GATE (1pt win – 14/1 bet365)
RICKETY GATE trailed home 26 lengths behind the winner when sixth of eight in a conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle at Perth in mid-May but that track, where his record reads 806286 (0-6), simply doesn’t suit. Weak in the betting (7-1 from 9-2), Nicky Richards’ ten-year-old hung left throughout on the sharp right-handed track and it’s interesting to note that he twice bombed out at that same Perth meeting previously (2022 and 2024) before bouncing back to score at Kelso in October on his next start. He had one more run after that disappointing Perth effort, beating only one home when 22-1 under a very inexperienced amateur rider at Hexham the following month, but looks worth chancing now freshened up. The veteran tends to peak at this time of year, recording form figures in October of 71118 (3-5), improving to 11 (2-2) when rested for at least 90 days. I’d prefer it if this race was at left-handed Kelso rather than at right-handed Carlisle but his course record in handicaps here reads 1821 (2-4) including a course and distance win in October.
4.00 Chelmsford – DEVIL’S BRIGADE (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
I took a chance and backed DEVIL’S BRIGADE (28-1 from 50-1) in a restricted maiden at Yarmouth last month, despite him being a newcomer trained by Ed Dunlop (the yard has a very low strike-rate with debutants). The systems angle was Calyx juvenile newcomers (now 13 from 76, +£117.38 to a £1 level stake at SP) and while never looking likely to add to that tally he did well to finish fifth after blowing the start and running green. The gelding is likely to take a big step forward this afternoon and the switch to Chelmsford’s Polytrack will suit on breeding.
5.45 Chelmsford – ARRAN (1pt win – 14/1 bet365)
ARRAN has failed to add to his juvenile debut success at Newmarket last April from six subsequent starts, but he faced stiff tasks in Group company in his two other two-year-old runs, and he’s shown more in defeat since returning from wind surgery this term. Oliver Cole’s son of Havana Grey fared best of the closers when third at Windsor on his return from a 348-day absence, went down narrowly in fourth when not quite seeing out a stiff 7f at Leicester, again fared best of those to come from off the pace when an 18-1 fourth in a 6f Leicester handicap before his last-time-out 10-1 fourth at Newmarket where he hit the front too soon in a race run to suit the closers. He’s yet to race on the all-weather but is bred to appreciate Polytrack, looks nicely drawn in stall 1 and the first-time blinkers could bring about improvement. Since 2010, the Cole yard is 19 from 114 with this headgear for a profit of £54.53 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 11.88, A/E = 1.60).
