5.10 Leicester – ROKUNI (0.5pt e/w – 3/1 bet365)
I would have preferred a lower draw for ROKUNI (stall 8 of 9) in this 7f handicap, but he still looks worth a small each-way bet in the hope that he heads to the centre and not the stands’ side rail, where the ground is usually slower. Christine Dunnett’s three-year-old has caught the eye against track biases the last twice, doing second best of those to race on the front end when a 16-1 fourth over 1m here before his two-length 14-1 fourth over 7f at Yarmouth where best of the prominent racers. He’s 12lb lower than when a 25-1 third over course and distance in April and it will be disappointing if he isn’t in the first three.
6.52 Leopardstown – PURVIEW (1pt win – 15-8 William Hill)
Simply backing any runner who contested a Group race last time out would have found nine of the last ten winners of the Meld Stakes (from 31 bets). Eight of the qualifiers started as favourite, with five of them winning (+£5.23 to a £1 level stake at SP). PURVIEW and Expanded are the two runners who ran in Group company last time and Dermot Weld’s three-year-old is preferred. The son of Kingman comfortably justified favouritism at Dundalk on his debut last November and ran a blinder on his comeback over a slightly longer trip here in May, chasing home Delacroix when 11-1 for the Derby Trial Stakes. He has Derby third Tennessee Stud four lengths back in third that day and a repeat of that effort should suffice.
