2.15 Ayr – VINCE L’AMOUR (1pt e/w – 11/2 bet365) & DANDY MAGIC (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 bet365)
Top weight VINCE L’AMOUR has a good record on genuinely good to soft or softer going (according to race times, not the official going), recording form figures of 311603810 (3-9) for a profit of £14.62 toa £1 level stake at SP. Tim Easterby’s four-year-old caught the eye when a two-length third of 14 in a Class 4 handicap at Haydock earlier this month, doing best of the prominent racers. The winner, runner-up, fourth and fifth were described by the Racing Post as “midfield”, “midfield”, “held up in rear” and “held up in rear” and it was a solid effort in the circumstances. Horses dropping from Class 4 level have a good recent record in today’s Class 5 contest, with four of the 11 qualifiers since 2019 scoring for a profit of £17.75 (last year’s two qualifiers finished one-two at 11-4 and 12-1) and Vince L’Amour is one of four who fit the bill this time around (the others are MONKS DREAM, JOSHUAS DREAM and DANDY MAGIC).
I also want a small interest on DANDY MAGIC, who clocked a good time when fourth of five to Iris Dancer at Hamilton last month. She hasn’t had many opportunities over 5f for current handler Jim Goldie and a big field/strong pace scenario at this trip could prove ideal. Fillies have won five of the past ten renewals from just 36 runners for a profit of £8.67 (geldings are five from 105 for a loss of £62.75).
2.52 Pontefract – YORKSHIRE LADY (1pt win – 100/30 bet365)
YORKSHIRE LADY did this column a favour when scoring at Windsor earlier this month (SP 25-1), taking her record in the month of September to 1111 (4-4) for a profit of £49.83 to a £1 level stake at SP. Mick & David Easterby’s seven-year-old coped well with the soft ground that day and a 2lb ratings rise to 82 means that she’s still eligible for this 0-80 contest.
