1.50 York – STAYA (1pt win – 13-2 bet365, 6-1 generally)

STAYA built on her impressive Yarmouth debut win when a 16-1 fifth of 23 in the Queen Mary, doing second best of the disadvantaged far-side group, and returned to winning ways to land a Listed contest at Sandown. She proved suited by the step up to 6f for the first time at Ascot on her latest start, faring best of the closers when a one-length runner-up behind 9-4 favourite Fitzella who made all. Stall 1 could prove useful, and she looks the value call.

13:50 Sky Bet Lowther Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) (IRE Incentive Race)

4.10 York – CHARLOTTE’S WEB (1pt win – 6-1 William Hill, 11-2 BetVictor)

CHARLOTTE’S WEB has yet to score on turf (0-5) but the Crisford’s consistent filly has career form figures of 3234111123343 (4-13) and caught the eye when fourth to Royal Dress over an inadequate 1m trip in a Listed race at Pontefract on her penultimate start, doing best of the prominent racers. She only went down by one length when third over the extended 1m2f here last time (winner/runner-up raced one-two throughout) and the step up to 1m4f could bring about further improvement. It’s just a shame that no firms are offering four places.

16:10 British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) (GBBPlus Race)

4.45 York – BALLISTIC MISSILE (1pt win – 11-1 William Hill, 10-1 generally)

Richard Hannon’s BALLISTIC MISSILE was fortunate to beat Utmost Respect into second place over course and distance when making his debut at the Dante meeting as the runner-up got boxed in on the rail but that was still an encouraging effort and the subsequent wind operation suggests that we can draw a line through his 18th of 20 behind Gstaad in the Coventry Stakes next time. The Mehmas colt caught the eye when second in a 7f Newmarket nursery earlier this month, doing best of the closers (winner made all), and his trainer has an eight from 36 record with horses having their second run back after wind surgery for a profit of £69.58 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 3.77, A/E = 2.12).

16:45 Mews Hotel Ossett EBF Stallions Nursery Handicap

5.20 York – LADY MARIKO (0.5pt e/w – 25-1 generally with the firms paying five places, Hills go 28-1 but only four places)

LADY MARIKO clocked a useful time when keeping on well to finish a close second in a 1m fillies’ handicap at Nottingham on her final start for the Crisfords and went one better over 7f at Wetherby on her debut for Dylan Cunha and she followed that with a comfortable success over the same trip at Yarmouth to take her record in handicap company in fields of ten or more runners to 211 (2-3). The three-year-old could only finish sixth of eight at Newmarket on her latest assignment but reared at the start and could never get competitive (it also didn’t help that she was switched towards the far side when the stands’ side rail looked the place to be). She needs to improve again but the big field/strong pace scenario will suit, as will the return to a flat track, and she could stay on into the frame at a big price.

17:20 British EBF Fillies’ Handicap (Heritage Handicap)

7.45 Newcastle – MONKS DREAM (1pt win – 8-1 bet365, 15-2 generally)

MONKS DREAM caught the eye when fourth at Thirsk on his latest start. Tim Easterby’s four-year-old travelled well in the rear but didn’t get the breaks when needed and his three-length defeat was worthy of an upgrade. That took his record on turf to 0-8 on turf and he looks very interesting now returned to Newcastle’s Tapeta surface, the scene of his three career wins. He’s well clear on last time out speed figures (all-weather only) with Proform and stall 9 could prove handy.

19:45 Racing League Race 33 Handicap (For horses In The Care Of Trainers Registered To Racing League)
