It’s difficult to come up with solid bets on Thursday’s cards as heavy rain on watered ground is going to lead to a host of non-runners and some interesting track biases. Sandown are currently referring to their ground as ‘good to soft (watered)’.
GET THE MUSIC ON was narrowly beaten into second place over 7.5f at Lingfield (good to firm) on her debut last summer and again found one too good in a soft-ground Rowley Mile fillies’ novice (7f) next time. She opened her account at Kempton in November and it’s safe to ignore her comeback defeat at Newbury as she got into a duel for the early lead in a race run to suit the closers, fading into seventh of eight. Sixth-placed Al Shabab Storm, the other front-runner, was narrowly beaten when punted on at Chester next time and Clive Cox’s three-year-old is likely to be fare better this evening.
COMMANDER CROUCH ran as though the outing were needed when a 28-1 last of six at Kempton on his reappearance in late March and took a big step forward with a 28-1 sixth of 11 at Portsmouth at Epsom four weeks later. It paid to race up with the pace in that extended mile contest and he fared third best of those to come from midfield or further back. Mr Baloo, the patiently-ridden fourth, was a winner on his next outing while fifth-home Great Chieftain (‘midfield’) found only a progressive rival too good at Nottingham earlier this week. Another hold-up horse, Whathappensinvegas, who finished 11.5 lengths behind the winner in seventh, scored at 25-1 on his next start and Commander Crouch looks worth a punt, despite yesterday’s rain perhaps not being ideal.
