NEXT SECOND trailed home last of eight over course and distance on his latest start but was drawn wide (stall 7) and got squeezed out at the start. He was also beaten over course and distance on his penultimate start, finishing fifth of nine, but was again badly berthed (stall 9 of 9). His record over course and distance when drawn in stall 6 or lower reads 37110821371 (4-11) for a profit of £47.00 to a £1 level stake at SP and he looks value to bounce back to form.
The slight concern where hold-up performer Next Second is concerned is the possible lack of early pace and for that reason I’m going to save on likeliest front-runner SUANNI, who clocked a good time when a close second over course and distance on his penultimate start.

8.00 Southwell – DARK SIDE THUNDER (1pt win – 6/1 William Hill)
Drifting favourite DARK SIDE THUNDER wasn’t given the greatest ride by Richard Kingscote at Chelmsford last time, sitting too far off the early pace under restraint and racing keenly as a result. The 7-4 shot stayed on in the straight but was still almost three lengths down at the line, finishing sixth of the eight runners. I’m happy to ignore that effort and it’s good to see regular rider Lewis Edmunds back on board at Southwell tonight. Jessica Macey’s five-year-old has form figures over course and distance of 1161531 (4-7) and though yet to win in today’s Class 4 grade, he does still seem to be on the improve, having recorded his four best Racing Post Ratings in the current season.
