2.10 Sandown – JENEVER (1pt win – 4/1 with bet365)
JENEVER needs a strong pace to chase and plenty of cover and they simply didn’t go fast enough for him at Nottingham last time where he finished fifth of seven as the 2-1 favourite. The winner made all that day and Jenever was outpaced before staying to finish just under three lengths back. Jessica Macey’s five-year-old stayed on strongly to score over course and distance in a 14-runner handicap on his penultimate start and has form figures over 5f-5.7f on turf, on good to soft or faster going, of 1211 (3-4). I’d have preferred a bigger field (nine are due to run) but there are plenty of pace angles and the race should be run to suit.
8.30 Yarmouth – ANDALEEP (1pt win – 25/1 with Paddy Power/Betfair)
Last year, this 1m2f Racing League contest was dominated by the pace horses and the first three finishers were placed one-two-three from a long way out. Fourth-placed ANDALEEP emerged clear best of those to come from midfield or further back, going down by just over one length at odds of 11-1. Daniel & Claire Kubler’s veteran can run off a 3lb lower mark this evening and though well beaten last time out, that was over a stiff 1m4f, and he’ll be much happier back in trip. His record in July/August over 1m2f or shorter stands at 774321140221141 (5-15) for a profit of £25.83 to a £1 level stake at SP, improving to 4114021141 (5-10) when returned to the track within three weeks of his latest outing (+£30.83).
